I’ve got the easiest dessert ever for you guys with all the Christmassy flavours. Cinnamon, ginger, apples and cranberries - your kitchen is going to smell heavenly.
As much as I love making my own pastry, there are times that require the shop bought variety and today is one of those days. Extra faff around Christmas just isn’t needed and so this fancy tart comes together in no time at all but tastes great.
You all know by now how much I love to incorporate spices wherever I can and the Schwartz Ground Cinnamon and Ground Ginger work beautifully here against the sweet apples and tangy cranberries. Serve up this tart warm with a good scoop of ice cream for the perfect festive pud.
R E C I P E
4 Granny Smith apples
1½ tsp Schwartz Ground Cinnamon
½ tsp Schwartz Ground Ginger
1 sheet of puff pastry
50g (2oz) cranberries, fresh or frozen
50g (2oz) caster sugar
75g (3oz) unsalted butter, cubed
Handful of flaked almonds
M E T H O D
Pre-heat the oven to 200ºC, 392ºF, Gas Mark 6.
Peel and core the apples and slice them thinly into half-moon shapes. Place them in a bowl and mix in all the spices ensuring the slices are evenly coated.
Unroll the sheet of puff pastry onto baking parchment. Place the apples on the pastry in diagonal lines and scatter the cranberries on top. Sprinkle on the caster sugar and add the cubes of butter on top. Place the flaked almonds around the edges of the tart and bake for 45-50 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and the apples have softened.
Leave to cool slightly before serving warm.
